LSSM Staff Attorney Summer Masterson-Goethals was selected by the Springfield Business Journal as one of the 40 up-and-coming professionals for the 2015 class of 40 Under 40.
Summer is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates; an active member of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, serving as a mentor to young lawyers and serving on the Law Day and Trial Advocacy Committees; and a member of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys. The Missouri Bar Association selected Summer to be a member of its prestigious Leadership Academy for the 2014-2015 class.
Summer often provides presentations to various groups on consumer issues affecting people, including Safe and Sound Expo, the Federal Trade Commission, the Office on Aging, Consumer Credit Counseling, OACAC, and area senior centers. Summer serves on the Southwest Missouri Consumer Task Force where she collaborates with other local agencies to bring light to consumer issues that people face. She has worked closely with local reporters to bring light to several important concerns about missing car titles in the sales of autos and unfair rental practices by local landlords. Summer frequently serves as a speaker for The Missouri Bar on topics of fair credit reporting, fair debt collection, and taking depositions. She has authored two Missouri Bar desk book chapters on discovery.
Summer has presented to pre-law students at Missouri State University about what to expect in law school and careers in law, and she created the Mock Trial Team while at Missouri State University. She serves her community by volunteering as a coach and judge for area high school students in Speech and Debate and Mock Trial. Summer also serves on the Disaster Relief Committee for The Missouri Bar.
