Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers will provide free tax preparation in the Springfield area. The tax preparation service is open to the public and is designed to benefit low-income and senior taxpayers earning $54,000 or less.
Taxpayers are required to bring photo ID, Social Security cards of themselves and dependents, as well as any tax documentation which they have received, includingall W-2 forms, 1099 forms, and statements issued by brokerage firms. Clients are also asked to bring a copy of their 2014 state and federal tax returns to help speed up the filing process. The Drury VITA site is located in the Breech School of Business Administration at the corner of Central Street and Drury Lane.
Due to limitations set by the federal government, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs are unable to help taxpayers who have declared bankruptcy or incurred insolvency during the tax year, have rental property, have a self-owned business with inventory, depreciable property, or which had an overall loss for the year, and certain situations in which a taxpayer has received a forgiveness of debt.

Holy Trinity Parish Hall, 2818 E Bennett St on Thursdays February 4 through April 14, 2016, (but not March 24) 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Legal Services, 809 N Campbell Ave. on Tuesdays February 9 through April 12, 2016, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
Mid-Town Library, 397 E Central St. Saturdays February 6 through April 9, 2016, (but not March 26) 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Walk-in sites are hosted at Drury University, Breech School of Business at the corner of Central St and Drury Lane on the following dates and times: Saturdays February 6 through February 13, 2016, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Mondays February 8 through February 29, 2016, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The site will call its last walk-in client one hour prior to the close of the site.

All returns will be filed electronically unless the IRS requires a manual return. All taxpayers must be available to sign the appropriate forms in the case of joint returns.
