Sunday August 17, 2014

Amanda Brown was elected to The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers Section (YLS) District 11 council seat.  YLS sponsors a variety of public service projects, CLEs, and social networking events across Missouri that are geared toward young and recently admitted lawyers.  Additionally, YLS assists in Missouri Bar and United States’ District Court enrollment activities.  All Missouri lawyers aged 36 or less or, if older, who have been in practice 5 years or less, are automatically members of YLS.  Membership is at no additional cost to regular The Missouri Bar dues.

Amanda Brown is a Staff Attorney with Legal Services of Southern Missouri in its Springfield, MO office, where she practices in the areas of family law, domestic violence, and probate law in a 19-county service area.  She received her Bachelor's degree from Missouri State University and her J.D. at Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2013 with a Certificate in Business Law.  Amanda was active in many organizations during law school including the Merit Scholars Program, Native American Wills Clinic, Pro Bono Service Awards Program, Environmental Law Club, Animal Law Club and Business Law Club.

Amanda is a member of The Missouri Bar's Family Law Section, Delivery of Legal Services Committee, and Women in the Profession Committee.  She is also an active member of both the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association and the Christian County Bar Association.  She has served as a CLE Moderator for The Missouri Bar, has presented information to Harmony House Shelter residents, participated in a fundraiser for Freedom's Rest Domestic Violence Shelter, and recently wrote an informative article on the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) for the Legal Services' newsletter.

Amanda participates in local community organizations such as 4-H and FFA; and is a lifetime member and participant of the American Quarter Horse Association.
