Legal Services of Southern Missouri (LSSM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assuring equal access to justice in civil matters for low-income individuals and families. LSSM is seeking a staff attorney to work under the Bank of America/IOLTA project. This project is to remove legal barriers to employment for low-income people and prevent foreclosures. This position will also handle a general practice.
The attorney will provide legal representation and advice in the areas of housing, domestic issues, financial, health, immigration, expungements, elderly and many others, including some social services. Responsibilities will also include educating communities and other advocacy organizations located in a 13-county service area.
Qualifications: Must be licensed to practice law in Missouri; possess excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively with low-income clients; and a demonstrated commitment to poverty law. A minimum of three years’ experience required.
